In this two-part article Dave describes the full method for Story based on over five years of research, experimentation and practice. Story telling has become something of a management fad in the last year or so, but most if not all of such activity is characterised in this article as ‘anecdote enhancement’: a useful technique in its own right but which taken in isolation, fails to exploit the full richness and potential of Story. In part one he covers basic language, some uses of Story in organisation and the techniques required to elicit anecdotes from communities, and describes the extraction of Archetype from anecdotes.

Part II addresses the various types of purposeful story that can be constructed from this raw material and will elaborate on the various use of Story in organisations together with the ethics of Story use.
